Mechanic Job in Owensboro KY, USA

Safety sensitive position under the Dept. of Transportation is seeking for a skilled and experienced Mechanic. As a Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance of vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to, police, fire, transit, and CDL vehicles/equipment, to ensure safety to the public. Responsibilities of Mechanic:

  • Repairs and provides preventive maintenance program on City vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintains logbooks, labor and parts records, and warranty forms.
  • Maintains routine scheduled preventive/proactive maintenance.
  • Fabricates parts and components.
  • Recommends needed repairs and maintenance or replacements.
  • Repairs and/or replaces engine, chassis, frame, body, and running gears.
  • Operates truck/tractor wrecker.
  • Performs AC, electronic, and electrical repairs.
  • Maintains and programs vehicular computer systems.
  • Conducts component installations, troubleshooting, diagnostics testing, etc.
  • Tests repair items to ensure proper operation.
  • Repairs tires, brakes, etc., and records repair times.
  • Operates machine shop equipment such as mill, lathe, drill, cutter, welder, etc.

Eligibility Criteria for Mechanic:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in Diesel Mechanics or other job-related field; OR 2 yrs. work-related experience in diesel mechanics.
  •  Equivalent amount of education/experience acceptable.
  •  Valid driver’s license: Valid CDL, Class B or higher, with P endorsement required within 11 months of employment.
